Bridge-canal of Briare

Do u know what is a "bridge-canal" ? This is a canal which pass over a river. Like a bridge, but the "bridge" is deep and filled of water.
Done to avoid to cross a village, the bridge-canal changes of bank. It is situated in the south of Paris near Nevers.

i have never heard of a bridge canal. it looks old. do they still build new ones or is this something from a long time ago?

@patina : it was built in 1897 by Eiffel(also Eiffel tower). Its lenght : 662 meters, deep : 2,20 meters, wide : 6 meters.
